The volunteer crew of the Tamar class all-weather lifeboat from Padstow were launched today (Wednesday 22nd August) to go to the aid of a yacht. The emergency pagers sounded for the crew at Padstow at 01.33am when they launched onboard the Tamar class all-weather lifeboat Spirit of Padstow.
The two man crew of the 8-metre yacht were unsure of the entrance to Padstow and suffered a rope around the propeller on the town's notorious Doom Bar. On arrival at the scene two of the lifeboat crew were transferred to the yacht using the lifeboat's inflatable Y boat to assist the yacht's crewmembers. The lifeboat then proceeded to escort the yacht over the Doom Bar and safely onto the lifeboat mooring because of low water. The swell was heavy on the Doom Bar and the lifeboat returned to station at 03.15am.
