Padstow RNLI lifeboat Tamar class 'Spirit of Padstow' was paged at 9.30am today (Friday 7th June) to go to the aid of one of the entrants in this year's Round Great Britain Row Challenge which left London's Tower Bridge last week.
The rowing boat with 4 men and two women onboard got into difficulties in rough seas, 40 miles N.N.W. off Trevose Head when the 26 ft boat suffered damage to the boat's steering system, forcing them to call for assistance and quit the race.
On arrival at the scene the boats occupants were taken onboard the lifeboat.The boat was then tied alongside the lifeboat which then proceeded to tow the boat slowly back to Padstow harbour arriving in Padstow at 5.15pm.
The lifeboat returned to the lifeboat station at Trevose Head at 5.45pm after almost 8 hours at sea.
